Monday, June 13th
  • Finish your final exam review sheet
    • A couple words some of you might be unsure of:
      • Zoom--When the camera LENS moved forward/back in order to bring an object closer or move it further away
      • Pan--When the entire CAMERA moves left to right or right to left
  • Remember, you may use 1 side of 1 page as notes for your final
  • You will need something to write with for your final as it will be done through DnA with the scan sheets
  • 1st hour--Test begins at 7:45am on Tuesday
  • 4th hour--Test begins at 9:19am on Wednesday
    • Everyone is to report here regardless of where you are taking the test

Wednesday, June 8th-Friday, June 10th

  • What is a PSA? (you need to know the definition for the final exam so pay attention)
    • Example 1:

    • The assignment Part A
      • Create a 10 shot (max of 10 shots) PSA if you are working alone. You MUST have a variety of shots (An establishing Shot, A long shot, A Medium shot, A close up)
        • You may work in a group of TWO (NO MORE) but you must have 12 shots for your PSA
      • Remember what you see is in the box and what you hear is written on the lines
      • Your PSA must inform about something and in 10 shots that must be clear (refer to the examples)

Monday, June 6th and Tuesday, June 7th

  • Listen to the 3 Little Pigs as told from the Wolf from Mrs. Ferris
  • If you did NOT finish your storyboard notes on Friday, complete them before moving on
  • Get your storyboard note sheet (you will need it for today)
  • Select a fairy tale and who is going to tell the story.
    • o This should be different from the original

  • Summarize it so that you can storyboard in EXACTLY 11 SHOTS (this might mean it is only PART of the entire story)
    • o You Need to include: An establishing Shot, A long shot, A Medium shot, A close up, A shot with 2 or more characters in it
    • o The remaining shots are up to your creativity.
    • o It must be in COLOR and drawn (stick figures are OK)
      • § Someone picking up your storyboard should be able to direct and film the story and know who is in which scene and what they are wearing, holding, standing near (etc.)

  • Write an audio track/script with sound effects in the lines below the storyboard frames.
    • o Remember, if it is something someone is speaking, it should be in “ “

  • Turn in your storyboard to Mrs. Ferris

Friday, June 3rd

  • Today we draw and color
    • *** Get 1 Storyboard sheet from the table by the printer
      • Using this Slide Presentationt, create a NOTESHEET for the types of shots and angles
      • You do not have to be the best artist but your notes need to have COLOR and show the correct shot/angle (you can use stick figures)
      • If you absolutely do not want to draw, you can find images in the class magazines and paste them onto the StoryBoard
        • Label each type of shot/angle (with the full name and abbreviation)
        • When ALL 10 are done, come and show it to Mrs. Ferris for credit.

  • Finish working on your Film Critique--Today is the last in class day for it

Tuesday, May 31st and Wednesday, June 1st

  • Work on your essay OR your FlipGrid Review
    • There will be 2 Chromebooks available to record--See Mr. Gold to use one

  • If you are doing FlipGrid remember:
    • Someone needs to hold the camera for you so you can use body language to express your feelings instead of holding the device.
    • There is a 20 point extra assignment for those who record their critique instead of writing it

  • For this next project you are going to be creating a product (a food product or similar) targeted to kids
    • Choose a Cute Celebrity to be the spokesperson for your new product. This is a Cute Celebrity that will be the face of your product. It can be an existing one, or you can create your own.
    • Find a picture of your Cute Celebrity. You will NOT be able to print in color here at school so it has to be a picture you can color. I will take off points for pictures that are printed in Black and White that look sloppy.
      • Go to Google and search under images for your character coloring page
        • This will give you an image you can color

      • Right click on the image and COPY
      • Go into Word and PASTE
      • Resize the picture so it is about 1/4-1/2 of the page, NO LARGER
      • Print it and color it (crayons, markers, colored pencils)
      • DO NOT PRINT DIRECTLY FROM GOOGLE--the sizing will be too big and often the picture will not print correctly

  • Create a script for a Voice Over for an ad for that candidate
    • It must have the candidate's name 2 times
    • State the position of candidate on the issue you picked
    • Tell voters to vote
  • This can also be a negative ad towards an opponent. Remember, they must be appropriate to air on TV/Radio
  • When you are ready to record I have Chromebooks.

    • Groups can have 2-4 people depending on how your newscast is set up
    • Develop and film a 3-5 minute newscast for the Thurston Action News
      • Must get have a DETAILED script/plan submitted and approved by Mrs. Ferris--As in who is saying what and where will you film (A script should be done and submitted for approval no later than FRIDAY)
        • The newscast must have:
          • Anchor to introduce the stories
          • A reporter to report them
          • At least 2 stories are covered (if you have 3 people you need 3 stories and 4 people will require 4 stories)
            • Anchor will introduce them and the report will tell the story
            • 1 teaser for a story that will come later in the newscast
            • Must be filmed either with a phone or Mrs. Ferris' camera
            • The news must be exciting, fast paced and school appropriate and at least one story must be Thurston Related
            • Since we will not have any violence, it is important to make your story important and informational. It does not need to be 100% true though
            • You can use props and things as needed
    • If you film this is segments, I can help you to use WeVideo or YouTube to edit the video
    • If you have questions-ASK
    • Most important, have fun!!!
    • It is possible to complete this assignment on your own but you will need to come up with a plan as to how you are going to do that

          • Must answer the 5Ws and H
        • Your story should be about 1 page double spaced.
        • News story paragraphs do not have to be long, some are 1-2 lines.
        • Use the resources from this unit to help you
        • Turn in through the Classroom (I have created a Document for you so you can work right in there)

Friday, April 8th

  • Bellwork--Once completed please turn in
  • Visit Newseum and view the Papers from TODAY
  • Check out the Front Pages from around the country
  • Pick 5 news papers from DIFFERENT States
  • Copy the pages into a Google Doc or Google Presentation (there is a template for you in the Classroom if you want to use it)
    • This must be done on the FIRST DAY--News changes so you must get your 5 front pages TODAY. Otherwise you have to start over tomorrow. Copy first, THEN go back and answer the questions
    • The best/safest/easiest way is to open the paper so it is full sized (this is important)
      • Right Click on the full sized image
      • Select Save Image As
      • Save it to your H Drive
      • THEN once all 5 are saved, add them to your presentation
    • You will need to adjust and resize the images so they display in your presentation properly

  • Answer the following questions for each front page
    1. What paper did you choose? (should be on top of the slide with the image)What City/State were they each from (should be on top of the slide with the image)
    2. What headlines were used? (make sure to list the main headline from EACH PAPER you selected)
    3. What pictures or graphics were shown?
    4. What stood out to YOU the most

    • You can create your own version in Word or Google Docs (Google will give you less formatting options)

    • Put your name on it
    • Label AS MANY of the elements as you can from the vocabulary for PRINT NEWS as you can (if you were absent yesterday here are the words)
    • Read the entire article and annotate it
      • You can use markers or pencils or pen
      • What do you agree with? Why?
      • What do you disagree with? Why?
      • What don't you understand?
    • At the end write a 3-5 sentence reaction of the article. What did you think? Why does this matter? Why do people care? How might it impact your life in the future?
      • These are just some ideas
    • Hand it into the basket by the printer in the back
